PCC RIG SET UP
With the growing popularity of Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC), we asked Team Safariland member Bobby McGee to weigh in on various PCC rig configurations and gear to get the most out of your time on the range or in competition. McGee has a wealth of experience as a competitive shooter, and has claimed titles of USPSA Grand Master and IDPA Champion. In his role as Vice President of Engineering for the Safariland® and Bianchi® brands, he’s directly involved in testing products on the range in practical situations and settings.
MODEL 334 RIGID COMPETITION BELT
The IPSC-approved Model 334 Rigid Competition Belt is reinforced to securely hold the heaviest of competition handguns. “It’s very thick and sturdy,” says McGee. “And it’s made to hold large and heavy mag pouches.” The Model 334 fastens with hook and loop closure and includes a strap which can wrap around the front for extra reinforcement. Because the belt is very stiff and won’t twist, it allows for a smoother, more consistent draw.
MODEL 773 OPEN TOP MAGAZINE POUCH
Next up, is the prototype system of the Model 773 Open Top Magazine Pouch. Using an innovative design, the mag pouch is elongated to accommodate long mag pouches. It’s similar to the Model 771 in that it uses an adjustable belt loop and rollers, but has a closed-in front area to retain the mag. You can adjust the Model 773 to any angle within 90 degrees.
MODEL 774 RIFLE MAGAZINE POUCH
Finally, check out the Model 774 Rifle Magazine Pouch, designed to carry one rifle magazine on the belt. “It has a series of holes so it’s ambidextrous,” says McGee. “All you have to do is switch over your ELS clip or belt clip.” For secure retention, Safariland added a positive detent so the magazine locks into place with an audible click. Fine tune the magazine retention stage to stage with a tension screw. The Model 774 mounts on the Model 032 ELS Competition Belt with the ELS system so you can customize your rig to your preference. Use the Clip-On belt attachment to fit belt widths from 1.5″ (38mm) to 2.25″ (58mm).
