Course Overview

The classroom portion of the class will deal with critical stress and the physiological effects associated with such an event as well as the techniques for mitigating those affects. Officers will then move to the range where they will perform core shooting skills using Airsoft training weapons. Officers will then begin facing armed adversaries and applying the skills they brought with them from the square range using Airsoft pistols. They must be able to shoot, move and communicate under stress to win. From the static range officers will then move into scenarios facing suspects (Instructors) and apply their training in both shoot and no shoot situations. The national hit rate for officers involved in shootings hovers around 30%, that means officers are missing 70% of the time. A major factor for this is the affect of high stress on an officer’s ability to function while under that stress. High stress causes physical skills to drop dramatically and training in a simulated, realistic environment provides inoculation through mental and physical preparation to the affects of an unanticipated, deadly threat at close range.

Subjects include, but are not limited to:

  • Police Officers are expected to use that force which is reasonable and necessary when:
  • Making arrests
  • Preventing escape
  • Department policy? What does yours say?
  • Is there a conflict?
