Tactical Planning in a Correctional Environment
Designed for operators and on-scene supervisors, this exciting program teaches students how to operate in a high-risk correctional environment and handle disruptive, uncontrollable and often times, dangerous inmates. This program teaches tactics designed for a successful outcome and prepares students to become skilled instructors and operators in the area of correctional disturbance techniques.

The Safariland Group Correctional Emergency Response Team Basic Instructor Course is dedicated to the corrections side of law enforcement. With classroom and practical application, this 3-day course covers all aspects of dealing with situations inherent to the correctional officer when dealing with riotous and disruptive inmates. Students will participate in classroom, hands-on and scenario-based training activities. The course was designed and is taught by corrections experts with real-world experience. Each instructor has worked in a correctional facility with practical applications based on the instructor's actual experiences. Course includes detailed information related to use of force liability issues. Course includes team standards and specialty operators, team building aspects and scenario preparation. All aspects of force are included such as mobile field force and cell extraction incorporating empty hands, batons, shields, less lethal impact munitions, chemical agents and distraction devices.
The course covers the following topics:
- Team Standards
- Cell extraction
- Small-room clearing
- Large-area clearing
- Less-lethal munitions
- Chemical agents and OC aerosols
- Distraction Devices
Students must be a sworn law-enforcement or correctional officer, federal agent, state-licensed security officer (OC only) or active military. These courses are not available to civilians. Each attendee must be physically ft for duty and able to perform the physical skills associated with tactical applications. Course will proceed regardless of weather.
