Safariland Armor Unveils Hardwire 49 – Thinnest and Lightest Level II Armor in the Industry at IACP – Global Police Summit

New product expands Safariland Armor Hardwire collection of ballistic panels and
carrier systems

ONTARIO, California – Safariland, a recognized leader in the armor market, today unveiled the Hardwire® 49, the thinnest and lightest level II body armor in the industry. Weighing in at only .49 pounds per square foot, this product expands the collection of ballistic panels developed in collaboration with Hardwire, LLC (“Hardwire”), a leader in armor systems. The Hardwire 49 complements the level IIIA Hardwire 68, the lightest and thinnest level IIIA soft armor in the industry, launched earlier this year in the Safariland® Armor line. This complete range of ultra lightweight ballistic panel technology will be on display at this week’s International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference in San Diego, California, Booth #1039.

Available this month, the Hardwire 49 is NIJ06 compliant, special threat tested and available in male and unstructured female sizes. It provides an unmatched combination of stopping power and is lighter than any soft armor available on the market today.

“The Hardwire 49 reinforces our commitment to provide best-in-class technologies to the dedicated professionals protecting our communities every day,” said Todd Mackler, vice president, Armor. “These officers have the most physically and mentally demanding jobs in the world. Every ounce carried matters and supports the officer’s performance. This next generation of equipment provides an outstanding level of protection.”

Hardwire soft armor ballistic panels are manufactured from perfectly interlaced Dyneema® fibers pressed under 25 million pounds of force at precise temperatures, which turns multiple layers of fibers into a single system to act together as one. This unique manufacturing process is the key to the armor’s remarkable stopping power. When a bullet impacts the armor, the energy is spread laterally as quickly as possible over a large area. The faster the energy is spread, the faster the bullet can be flattened and stopped, leaving a dent instead of a hole. Since the ballistic panels dissipate the bullet’s energy more quickly and efficiently than other armor, less material is required reducing overall panel weight.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) conference is October 15-18, 2016 and will include thousands of dedicated professionals from federal, state, county, local and tribal agencies that share intelligence on the latest technologies and practices. Product demonstrations of Safariland Armor technologies will be on display throughout the IACP 2016 conference. For more information, visit www.safariland.com.
