Doug Koenig Adds Another Masters Championship

August 06, 2005
Barry, Illinois

Shooting in good conditions, Koenig won the event by a considerable margin over second place finisher Bruce Piatt. Koenig also won each of the three events of the match with a score of 41 in the Long Range Pistol Event; a score of 36 in the Precision Event; and a time of 21.52 in the Action Event. Koenig’s remarkable string of victories at the Masters Championship is, in his words, the result of “hard work and knowledge of how to train properly for the match.” Koenig remarked, “many people think I come here and take home the automatic victory. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I put the same amount of preparation into this match as I do the Bianchi Cup, the Outdoor Games, and the rest of my matches. Nothing, at this level, is automatic.” Koenig also remarked that the Masters course of fire is a great test of a shooter’s all around pistol abilities.

This was Koenig’s fourth victory of the season. Koenig won the National Action Pistol Championship (Bianchi Cup) in May; was a member of the winning pro team at the Sportsman’s Team Challenge in June; won the Gold Medal at the ESPN Great Outdoor Games; and has now won his twelfth Masters Championship. No other shooter in the world has demonstrated the eclectic skills of Koenig.

Koenig has won national and world championships in pistol events, shotgun events, and rifle events. A professional shooter, Koenig has dominated competitive pistol shooting for the last ten years. He has won twelve Masters International Championships, three World Speed Shooting Championships, an IPSC World Championship, a two World Action Pistol Championships (holds World Record Score), nine Sportsman’s Team Challenge Championships, a World All-Around Championship, and nine National Action Pistol Championships (Bianchi Cup).
