SERGEANT ED HINCHEY
On November 9, 2004, Sergeant Ed Hinchey pulled his patrol car toward a suspect’s
vehicle on what he thought would be a fairly routine domestic disturbance call. The
suspect rammed Sgt. Hinchey’s police cruiser head on. While the officer approached the
suspect’s vehicle on foot, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired, hitting Sgt. Hinchey in
the chest and the upper leg. The serious leg wound required surgery but the assailant’s
shot to the officer’s chest was stopped by his Second Chance
®
body armor. Hinchey, now
retired from law enforcement, is the leader and voice for the Safariland
®
SAVES Club.
