How does BlastShield® work?
BlastShield looks like a conventional solar screen, yet is woven with high-tensile strength yarns and permanently attached to a structural component above and below the frame of the window. In a blast or catastrophic event, BlastShield works like a glove to capture the glass fragments and other projectiles within the window area while dissipating the blast load.
What are the benefits of BlastShield?
BlastShield utilizes PhiferShield® woven fabric while includes high-strength, impact-resistant Spectra® yarn. Spectra, pound for pound, is 10 times stronger than steel and coated to protect it from UV degredation.
BlastShield functions as a solar screen, while providing 24/7 protection and requiring little or no maintenance. The fabric is washable and certified for security window upgrades by the U.S. Government.
Where should BlastShield be installed?
BlastShield is appropriate wherever the trheat of terrorist bombings, accidental explosions, or certain natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes would cause glass to shatter. Skylights, vertical glazings and windows are protected with this product.
